The Solid Maple Butcherblock tops used by BenchProâ„¢ are made from 1-3/4 thick strips of genuine Maple Hardwood. To prevent warpage and splitting, the wood is died in a low-heat atmosphere for almost one year before it is cut into strips and glued edge to edge. The hardwood strips vary in width, so that some strips are single and some strips are double wide. This gives the tops added strength while reducing the possibility of the top splitting along its seams.
We generally stock over 500 Maple Butcherblock tops, ready for assembly. We receive unfinished tops in truckload quantities direct from the mill. We first size and sand them, then round the edges, and then surface them in either an oiled or lacquered finish. (While lacquer finished tops have a nicer appearance for offices, the less expensive oiled finish is generally best for production and high use areas, as they can be resurfaced easily, and minor damage does not affect their appearance).
BenchProâ„¢ is primarily known for our high quality benches which assemble easily and carry extreme loads. This Roosevelt Series bench is our economy model. We designed it to be the strongest and easiest to assemble of the current economy market offerings.
Even though many companies use this design bench successfully in their production areas, we want to advise the differences. It has left to right steel reinforcing underneath the top and has been tested to hold over 1,600 pounds when the weight is evenly distributed. Even so, it will show minor downward deflection in the the center, especially when loaded heavily. Â
This bench design, whether made by us or another manufacturer, takes about half an hour to assemble, compared to less than 2 minutes for our other series benches.Â
